Admissions

Ethos
JCoSS is a unique Jewish school in Great Britain as it is inclusive, open to all Jewish children irrespective of birth status or synagogue affiliation, and with due respect for differing traditions, beliefs and practices. JCoSS is an inclusive, nurturing Jewish learning community, which provides young people with an excellent education and prepares them to be responsible, active and knowledgeable citizens who embrace diversity within our community and in the wider world. JCoSS offers educational excellence at all levels within a unique Jewish ethos, augmented by the teaching of wider multiculturalism.

Admission arrangements
In September 2012, we will admit up to 40 students into Year 12, provided that a suitable course is available for each one. Priority will be given to those who practise Jewish Activities (Criteria One). Remaining places will then be given to those who do not practise Judaism (Criteria Two).

JCoSS will seek from the current school of each applicant a prediction of GCSE performance, and an assessment of suitability for the chosen 6th Form course.Once this has been received, a meeting will be arranged at which applicants will be asked to confirm subjects preferred for 6th Form study and to discuss aspects of the personal statement they will have completed on the application form. Most meetings will take place during the Spring Term. Applicants must be accompanied by a parent/carer to the meeting and may wish to bring samples of GCSE in subject areas relevant to 6th Form subject choices (eg a portfolio for Art).

Admission qualifications
JCoSS is a high-achieving school. We do not operate a rigid policy of offers conditional on GCSE grades; we assess each application on its merits, and on the likelihood that the applicant will thrive at JCoSS, achieve good results and contribute to our ethos. We reserve the right to reconsider choice of 6th form courses in the light of the GCSE results of successful applicants. Courses will run subject to demand.
